El ex pescador artesanal de la Reserva Marina de Galápagos, Miguel Andagana, recoge colillas de cigarrillos todas las mañanas por las calles de Puerto Ayora, con la única ayuda de sus cansadas manos y la fe inquebrantable que lo lleva gritar al mundo su campaña ambiental NICOTINA ASESINA, para así intentar evitar que esta contaminación legal siga causando estragos en la fauna y flora de las islas encantadas.

Colillas de cigarrillos que las arrojan irresponsablemente ciudadanos locales y extranjeros que no son buenos fumadores. ¨El buen fumador no bota las colillas al piso y el excelente fumador no fuma porque ya recapacitó¨

Transforma las colillas de cigarrillos en arte.

Don ¨Miguicho¨, como es conocido en las islas, nació el 2 de Agosto de 1949 y a los 10 años llego a San Cristóbal, capital de la provincia de Galápagos. Trabajo como marinero, cocinero, pescador, capitán costanero y actualmente divide su tiempo entre las actividades de su programa y la actividad de fisioterapeuta, dando masajes de relajación a cuerpos adoloridos por los embates de la vida cotidiana.

Este ambientalista de Galápagos, utiliza todos los medios para llegar con su mensaje de conservación al mundo.

Las colillas que día a día ha recogido en plazas, muelles, escenarios deportivos y calles de Puerto Ayora las ha reutilizado para crear obras de arte. Él, con estos residuos, crea figuras de animales y otras figuras que son parte de su extraña y original colección de educación ambiental. Estas obras están compuestas por dos albatros, Nico y Tina, un globo terráqueo, un tiburón, un lobo marino y otros.

Para quienes no entienden el mensaje de don Miguicho, decidió crear esculturas con mensajes subliminales. ¨El Piquero¨, por ejemplo, que está elegantemente vestido, significa que el cigarrillo daña la mente, la voluntad y las emociones del ser humano, aunque vista, traje muy fino.

Los muñecos los exhibe diariamente en una carpa localizada en el Parque San Francisco, muelle principal, al ingreso de puerto. Lugar ideal, según él, para compartir su programa con locales y visitantes y compartir el discurso de CONTAMINACIÓN LEGAL, como lo llama. Inició con esta actividad en el año 2013. Hasta el momento, ha recolectado más de 500 libras de colillas de cigarrillos, que mantiene almacenadas en costales de plásticos. Don Miguicho no pierde la oportunidad de mostrar al mundo la problemática de contaminación por colillas de cigarrillos. Él es el administrador de sus redes sociales. El discurso de don Miguicho.   

El cigarrillo, droga social, tiene más de 40 químicos tóxicos activos que al mezclarse con la tierra se convierte en 12.000 químicos tóxicos por la diversidad química del suelo y envenena un metro cúbico de agua. Cada año, millones de colillas de cigarros acaban tiradas en el suelo, residuos que no son biodegradables y acumulan peligrosos elementos tóxicos que suponen un serio riesgo no solo para el ser humano que lo consume sino también para un medioambiente tan frágil como el nuestro.

Los residuos de tabaco.

Según explica, contienen más de 7.000 sustancias químicas tóxicas que envenenan el ambiente, algunas de ellas cancerígenas para el ser humano; además, los desechos de los cigarrillos tardan décadas en desaparecer y contaminan los mares, dañan la biodiversidad y son los causantes de incendios forestales.

Nos explica además, que estos deshechos contienen plomo, mercurio, fenol, amoníaco, y derivados del petróleo Pero, ¿cómo contaminan el agua? La respuesta es que estas colillas son arrastradas por la lluvia, cuando son tiradas directamente a la calle y llegan al sistema de saneamiento y alcantarillado, donde entran en contacto con el agua, llegando al mar y matando la vida marina.

“Estos residuos liberan, en tierra y mar peligrosas sustancias químicas y, debido a su pequeño tamaño, los ingieran animales como pájaros, peces y otros; en el peor de los casos, mueran por digerirlos. Además los utilizan como material de construcción de sus nidos”, manifiesta el comprometido activista, quien sabe que hay que sumar propuestas, y abordar el tema con educación y acción permanente.

Nace una nueva iniciativa: Colillatón

Por dos años consecutivos, don Miguicho desarrolla la limpieza masiva de colillas por las calles de Puerto Ayora acompañado de la comunidad. La actividad es llamada COLILLATÓN, donde la comunidad es la protagonista.

Campaña de recolección de colillas

En el año 2018 se recolectaron 28,046 colillas de cigarrillos. En este año, 2019, se recolectó en dos horas, 23,580 colillas. Grupos organizados, familias, ambientalistas y ciudadanos se suman a esta fiesta ambiental viviendo de una manera diferente la conservación.

Como principal colaborador de don Miguicho nos encontramos con Ángel Mauricio Andagana, hijo de este famoso personaje ambiental de las Galápagos, quien lo acompaña en sus campañas comunitarias. Realiza la organización, desarrollo, locución. Él es el responsable de la elaboración de cartillas para el levantamiento de información, para darnos los resultados año a año de la Colillatón.

El programa busca crear conciencia en la comunidad de Galápagos y en los turistas que visitan año a año estas hermosas islas, patrimonio natural de la humanidad, donde son 20.000 habitantes y los que atienden a 200.000 visitantes. Insta a que no BOTEN COLILLAS AL PISO, porque dañan la salud de quienes habitan este paraíso y de los animales que tanto aman.
